ADVOCACY
Sep 23rd, 2008 | By Eli | Category: AdvocacyBCC’s mission is “Creating a Better Community Through Road Biking”. The Club is committed to (1) providing recreational road bikers a safe, fun, and social way to ride with a group; (2) promoting road biking safety in the rural areas of the County for both recreational riders and cycling commuters through infrastructure improvements and road safety education for motorists and cyclists; (3) training our ride leaders and members in cycling safety knowledge, courtesy, and skills To get involved email us today!
Canyons Working Group
We participated in the Canyons Working Group put together by the Boulder County Department of Transportation (CDT). We were an organizational voice for road bikers, and we made several infrastructure recommendations that are being implemented.
County Cyclist/Motorist Safety Education Campaign
Infrastructure changes are often cost-prohibitive and can only do so much for road bikers. We think safety education is the primary way to improve road biking safety. As a result, we have urged the Boulder County Department of Transportation to develop an effective safety education outreach to cyclists and motorists (focused on their interaction with cyclists).
County Cycling Infrastructure Improvements
We advocate improvements to popular road biking routes and creating new ones. In addition, we work with the County Cartographer to accurately and currently reflect cycling conditions in the county. We have proposed an interactive online cycling map for the county that reflects recent cycling accident locations, hazards, and bike thefts. We report road hazard information and encourage members to report hazards.
Supporting Other Cycling Advocacy Programs
The BCC supports other local advocacy programs in various ways, including providing volunteers, disseminating information, and serving on committees. The BCC is a member of the League of American Bicyclists and the Alliance for Biking and Walking. We urge our members to join Bicycle Colorado. Click here for examples of some of the programs we have been involved in.
