Sounds like a great way to spend a Saturday! A giant thank you to Barry and Jane for scouting out the route, putting together a map and arranging for accommodations by the restaurant. It’s our volunteers that keep the club vibrant and interesting. I also want to thank our ride leaders who have committed to leading rides. Check out this week’s ride schedule below.

Summer is in full swing, and there’s no better place to be than in the heartland of cycling, the metropolis of spandex and spokes, our own velodrome of velocity; Boulder, Colorado. After you’ve watched our own Chipotle/Slipstream/Garmin Team crank up the alps of the Tour de France, it’s time for your own ride and
this week we have some great ones:
Tonight is our world famous Margarita Ride: Take a spin around the Rez, Niwot and Gun Barrel ending at Serranos Mexican Restaurant for their wonderful margs which is a great way to end this hot day. (Special happy hour discounts extended to BCC members!) This is a Hybrid/Mtn/Cruiser and easy paced ride of some road, but mostly trails with the average distance of 10 to 15 miles.
Also tonight, Michelle is leading a Jamestown Road Bike Ride from Amantes, in North Boulder This is an intermediate ride. Meet at 5:30 and leave 5:40. I swear it’s cooler in the mountains folks, and there’s only one way to find out: RIDE!
Club Member Ann sent our way a wonderful petition asking Google to support bike route mapping as well as their transit feature. (of course this being Boulder our own goboulder.net already has that wonderful feature, but let’s help the rest of our fellow cyclists worldwide!)
The online petition is at:
http://www.petitiononline.com/bikether/petition.html
And there’s an article about it at TreeHugger:

Thanks for all your support!

Starting this Friday!
Friday night is Ladies’ Night for mountain biking! Join us this Friday, June 27, to kick off a weekly, women’s only mountain bike ride. This is a safe, supportive and non competitive group of varying ages and skill levels. These are no drop rides - no girls get left behind!
Rides will range from beginner to intermediate levels of difficulty. This first ride will meet at the Boulder Valley Ranch trailhead at 6pm. Ride out to the Rez, around it, and back. The ride is easy, approximately 10 miles round trip, mostly on double track and dirt road. (Boulder Valley Ranch is 1 mile north of Boulder, on Longhorn Rd, east of Hwy 36.) Contact Michelle Webb for more info: michellepwebb@msn.com
Please keep in perspective safety first when we venture out onto the roadways of Boulder. I got a chilling reminder of this as I was driving back from Longmont and as I crested the hill on 36 at the Broadway intersection all I could see was a multitude of police cars surrounding a very large dump truck and as I slowly crept by sticking out from under the back tire was a mangled bicycle. Our deepest sympathies go out to the family of Michael McCutcheon who was tragically killed last Sat while crossing the intersection from Broadway onto Hwy 36. So as your out there on the roadways, bike paths and mountain trails keep your focus and be safe first.
On another note we like to express our support for Steve Crider (our Thursday night ride leader) and his daughter who has gone through a second kidney transplant and unfortunately this one did not work out either. You are in our thoughts and we wish you the best.
Remember this weekend is the Blue River Century up in Keystone and I’ll be heading up Friday night so i can be up bright and early at 6:00 am to help with registration.Congratulations to Marie for putting it together and for all the folks that are helping her out. The lance Armstrong is a great foundation with emphasis on SURVIVORSHIP! For more info on the ride go to www.bluerivercentury.com. I’ll report back next week on the ride.
We are looking at rolling out a Mountain Biking oriented ride in July for the women in the club.
If your interested please email us at info@bouldercyclingclub.com. Some of you remember the Single Track Sisters and this would be a similar ride. Friday night is what the schedule leaning towards now—any takers???
For all our rides go to the website and check out the calendar.
Hope you have a great weekend and remember to be safe out there!

Summer riding has arrived! Temperatures soaring into the nineties (ok, so for one day at least!) It never ceases to amaze me that even in the hottest temperatures here in Boulder, riding a bike is a pleasant experience.
Last Friday was a very entertaining experience with Bob Roll and Gary Fisher chatting and answering questions from the crowd at the new Trek Store in Bas Mar Shopping Plaza. Bob talked about what life on the “Tour” for 3 weeks is like both as a racer and now, as a journalist covering it for the Versus network. It sounds rather grueling (esp. when he tries to keep up with the drinking habits of his 2 announcing sidekicks!) Gary discussed the latest trends in Mtn biking coming out of California (as he said you know it all starts out there and as California goes so goes the rest of the country eventually). In Marin County where he resides he’s seeing a surge in High School racing supported by the parents because it gives the kids a great outlet for there energy. He also talked about one of the fastest growing segments of the market is the “commuter” type bikes with more people utilizing a bike to get around town especially in the urban areas. All in all a fun time was had by all and big thanks to the owners of the Trek Store for bringing these entertaining guys to Boulder.
Another true sign of summer is the arrival of looking for a GREAT place to ride. Patrick from Chicago hit the ground riding last week and didn’t stop riding to he got back on the plane back to Chicago! out-of-staters! It’s fun to show people all the great rides and cycling atmosphere we tend to take for granted living here.
Take a look at photos from last Sunday morning at Amantes and Gary Fisher here . Welcome to all of you travelling through and feel free to join in on a ride with us or email us with questions at info@bouldercyclingclub.com
The air is full of century rides with the Sunrise Century this weekend and remember Marie’s Blue River Century is only a week away. let’s help support one of our members as she rolls out this inaugural ride out of Keystone. She still needs volunteers to help, so if your interested email us at info@bouldercyclingclub.com for more info.
If you’ve never volunteered at one of these events take it from me it’s a lot of fun plus it makes you feel good to help such a good cause. I’ll be going up to help out so join me in all the fun in a beautiful setting.
All the rides for the month are posted on the calendar page of the website so for more information on specific rides check it out!
Have fun and get out there and RIDE.
